Ordering & shipping
How long will it take to get my order?
Every piece is forged to order. Production runs 1 to 2 weeks, then US delivery takes another 3 to 7 days. You get a tracking email the moment it leaves Memphis. If a piece is out of stock it is forged from scratch, which takes 2 to 3 weeks instead of 1 to 2.
Do you charge for shipping?
No. US shipping is free on every order with no minimum, to all 50 states including Alaska and Hawaii. International shipping is quoted at checkout.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. International orders usually arrive within 10 to 25 days depending on the destination and customs. Any duties or VAT are set by your country and payable by you.
Why does production take 1 to 2 weeks?
Nothing is held in stock. Each piece is forged, ground, fitted, sharpened and inspected by hand after you order. We would rather take an extra week than ship a blade that has not been checked.
Can I change my shipping address after ordering?
Yes, within 12 hours of placing the order. Email sales@ransackviking.com with your order number and the correct address. Once a piece has shipped the address cannot be changed.
Can you ship to a PO box?
No. Carriers will not deliver bladed goods to a PO box. Please use a street address.
Payment & pricing
Is checkout on your site secure?
Yes. The site runs over an encrypted SSL connection and payments are handled by established payment providers. We never store your full card details on our servers.
What currency are your prices in?
All prices are shown and charged in US dollars. If you are ordering from outside the United States your bank converts at its own rate.
When is my card charged?
At checkout, the moment you place the order. That payment is what starts your 1 to 2 week production slot.
Will I pay customs duties or taxes?
Orders delivered inside the United States have no import duties. For international orders, any duties, VAT or handling fees charged on arrival are set by your country and payable by you.
Can I cancel my order?
Within 12 hours of purchase, yes — just email us with your order number. Engraved and custom pieces cannot be cancelled once cutting has begun.
Do you offer bulk or wholesale pricing?
Yes. We regularly supply groomsmen sets, corporate gifts, clubs and retailers. Email sales@ransackviking.com with the pieces and quantity and we will quote.
Returns, warranty & engraving
What is your return window?
7 days from the day your order is delivered. The piece must be unused, unsharpened by you, and returned in its sheath and box. You cover return shipping; we refund the full purchase price within 5 business days of it arriving.
What does the lifetime warranty cover?
Any defect in the forging, grind, heat treat or fittings, with no end date and no receipt hunt. It does not cover a dull edge, rust from poor storage, cosmetic wear, or damage from using a blade as a pry bar.
Can I return an engraved piece?
No. An engraved piece cannot be sold to anyone else. You have 12 hours from purchase to change or cancel. The lifetime warranty on the steel still applies, and if we cut the mark wrong we replace the piece.
How much does engraving cost?
Lettering or Elder Futhark runes are $19 per piece. A family crest is $34.99 per piece. Charged per piece rather than per order, because each one is separate hand work.
Can any piece be engraved?
Almost all of them — axes, swords, seax, chef and hunting knives, pocket knives, shields, drinking horns and jewellery. A handful of textured or wrapped surfaces cannot take a mark, and those product pages do not offer the option.
Will engraving weaken the blade?
No. The mark is cut shallow into the flat or the spine, never into the edge bevel or anywhere carrying stress. It does not affect the heat treat.
The steel itself
What steel do you use?
Hand-forged Damascus, high-carbon steel, D2 tool steel and stainless, depending on the piece. Every product page lists which one under The Details.
Will my blade rust?
High-carbon and Damascus will if left wet or unoiled — that is the trade for a finer edge. Wipe dry after use and oil monthly. D2 is semi-stainless and stainless will not rust.
Is the Damascus pattern real or etched on?
Real. The pattern comes from folding and drawing out the billet by hand, so it runs through the steel rather than sitting on the surface. No two pieces are identical.
How sharp do blades arrive?
Sharpened and ready to use. Ground at roughly 18 to 22 degrees per side. Handle every piece as a working blade from the moment you open it.
Where are your pieces made?
Forged by hand in established overseas partner workshops, then inspected, engraved and dispatched from our Memphis, Tennessee facility. We set this out in full on our Country of Origin page and we do not claim “Made in the USA”.
Still need a hand?
We answer email from Memphis during US business hours, usually the same day.
