VIKING AXES
Every Viking axe in this collection is hand-forged — heated, hammered and ground by our artisans from high-carbon or Damascus steel, then fitted with rosewood, ash or birch handles. Whether you want a bearded axe for camp work, a Ragnar-style battle axe for your collection, or an engraved axe as a gift, each piece ships sharpened with a leather blade cover from our Memphis, TN facility. Most axes can be personalized with names, dates or Norse runes.

Bearded axes have a lower cutting edge that extends below the head, letting you grip right behind the blade for carving and detail work — the most historically common Viking design. Battle axes carry a broader, symmetrical edge built for reach and power, ideal for display and reenactment. We also forge hatchets for camping and themed axes featuring Ragnar Lothbrok, Yggdrasil, Valknut and rune engravings.
Choosing Your Steel: High-Carbon vs Damascus
Our high-carbon steel axes are heat-treated to 56–60 HRC — a hard, durable edge that sharpens easily and handles real work. Damascus axes are forged from layered 1095/15N20 steel, showing the signature flowing pattern; equally functional, with a look collectors love. Both need a light coat of oil after use to prevent rust.
Personalize Your Axe
Most axes offer custom engraving — a name on the handle, a date on the blade, or Elder Futhark runes. Engraved axes are our most popular groomsmen and anniversary gifts. Pair one with a Viking beer mug or seax knife for a full Norse gift set.
Viking Axe FAQ
Do your Viking axes come sharpened?
Yes. Every axe is sharpened by hand before final inspection at our Memphis, TN facility and ships with a fitted leather blade cover.
What is the difference between a bearded axe and a battle axe?
A bearded axe has a lower blade edge extending below the axe head, allowing a grip right behind the head for carving and close work. A battle axe has a broader, symmetrical cutting edge built for reach and power.
Can I use a Viking axe for camping or splitting wood?
Yes — our high-carbon axes are functional tools, not just wall-hangers. For heavy splitting we recommend the larger battle axes; for camp tasks a bearded axe or hatchet is ideal.
Can I get a name or runes engraved?
Yes. Most axes offer custom engraving on the blade or handle — select the engraving option on the product page.
How long does delivery take?
Orders are inspected and shipped from Memphis, TN within 1–3 business days, with US delivery typically taking 3–7 business days.
