The wakizashi is the shorter companion sword to the katana, with a blade between roughly 30 and 60 centimetres.The one that stayed onWorn together the two were called the daishÅ, literally big-little, and the pair marked a man as samurai. The practical difference mattered indoors: custom required the katana to be left at the door when entering a house, while the wakizashi stayed on the belt.
