A battle axe is built differently from a working axe. The head is lighter, the edge is longer relative to its weight, and the balance sits closer to the hand so the axe can be recovered quickly rather than swung once and committed.The shapesThe bearded axe drops the lower edge into a hook, which lengthens the cut without adding weight and lets the hand ride up behind the blade for close work. The Dane axe is the two-handed version, with a broad thin head on a long haft. The francisca is a throwing axe with a distinctive arched head.Every axe here is hand-forged from high-carbon or Damascus steel and hung on rosewood, ash or birch, with a fitted leather blade cover.
