A display sword is one bought to be looked at. That is a legitimate reason to own a sword and it covers most of the market, whatever people say in forums. The useful distinction is not sharp against blunt, it is whether the piece was built to take impact or built to hang correctly and hold a line across a room.
What is in this group
Arming swords, Viking swords, scimitars, side swords, fantasy blades and a few longswords. Overall lengths run from about 27 inches on a short sword to 42 on a hand and a half, with blades from roughly 21 to 32 inches. Steel is plain 1095 high carbon at 54 to 58 HRC or Damascus of 1095 and 15N20, forge welded and acid etched, at 58 to 60 HRC. Fittings run to wheel pommels, disc pommels, brass ring guards, red stone settings, etched knotwork bands and barbed fantasy guards. Grips are leather wrapped, cord wrapped or wood. Many come with a scabbard, which changes how you mount it and is worth checking before you buy a bracket.
Mounting it without an incident
A sword on a wall is several pounds of steel held up by whatever you screwed into. Find a stud or use proper anchors, take the weight at two points rather than one, and angle the blade so the edge is not facing into a doorway at head height. Sunlight will fade a leather grip and heat from a radiator will dry it out, so pick a wall that is not the sunniest one in the room. The mounting guide covers brackets and load. If you are not sure which side of the line your intended use falls on, read the display against battle ready explainer first. Stands and racks are in the sword stands and displays, and the more theatrical shapes in the fantasy and movie swords.
Sharp or not
Most of these arrive with a working edge rather than a shaving edge, which is correct for a piece that spends its life on a wall and gets handled by guests. A blade you can hang and still take down without a plaster is a better object than one that opens a thumb the first time somebody points at the fuller. If you want it keener than it arrives, that is a stone and twenty minutes.
