The tsuka is the handle of a Japanese sword and the wrap is what stops it turning in a wet hand. Cord over rayskin, crossed in alternating diamonds, is the traditional answer and it still works better than anything smooth. Every piece on this tag is wrapped that way rather than fitted with a plain grip.
What is wrapped and how
Cinderpine is a wakizashi, 28.5 inches overall with a 20 inch blade, a brown cord wrap and sageo and a black saya. Shadowcurve is the blackened version at 28 inches with a curved blade and a matching saya. Moonedge is the katana, high carbon with a bo hi fuller and a black lacquer saya. Blackreed is the ninjato, a straight single edged blade with a blackened finish and a square guard. Valkshade is the twin ninjato set, both blades Valknut etched with round iron tsuba and two black scabbards. Duskcairn is the other pair, two swords with knotwork engraved fittings and black ito wrapped tsuka. Trinesaya is the smallest, a Damascus tanto with a Valknut etched blade and a round steel tsuba.
