An engraved sword carries work cut into the steel rather than applied to it. Historically that meant inlay along the fuller, maker marks and interlace on the fittings. Here it means etched panels, runic rows and knotwork cut into guards and pommels. It is the difference between a blade that is finished and one that has something to say.
Where the cutting is done
Vinehewn runs an engraved vine pattern along a 36 inch blade with a cord wrapped grip and a brass fitted scabbard. Stonerune is the runic broadsword, in 1095 high carbon steel. Ravenmark is black Damascus, 36 inches overall with a 30 inch blade, where the etch sits dark against the pattern. Azurehewn takes the work onto the fittings instead, with a brass faceted pommel over a blue leather grip and a matching blue scabbard. Silverhilt is the short one at 26 inches with an engraved knotwork hilt and a black leather scabbard.
If you want a name, a date or a symbol added rather than a stock pattern, that is engraved and personalized work, cut in the US after the blade arrives.
