A flame blade is cut in waves rather than straight down the edge. The shape was genuinely used, on Renaissance greatswords and hunting swords, and there are arguments about whether the undulation made the cut worse for the person on the receiving end. What is not in doubt is that it draws the eye across a room.
The blades and their hilts
Wyrmtide is the set, a forty three inch flame bladed longsword with a matching fifteen inch dagger, both with rune etched ricassos and leather wrapped grips. Flamewake is a longsword at roughly forty two inches with an S curved crossguard, an engraved pommel, a leather grip and a brown scabbard. Flamewave is the Damascus flamberge longsword, with a wave cut blade, a parrying hook guard above the ricasso and a wooden scabbard. Nightflame runs around forty inches with a blackened swept hilt, a knuckle bow, a ribbed grip and a brown scabbard. Scrollward is the shortest at thirty six inches, an arming sword with a scrolled crossguard, a Valknut rain guard and a leather scabbard.
They sit in flamberge swords, with the long ones also in longswords and the shorter cross hilts in arming swords.
