Infantry beat cavalry with length, and a polearm is simply length with something unpleasant on the end. These are the shapes a medieval town militia would have owned: cheap to make, quick to teach, and effective against a rider in a way no sword ever managed. They are also long, so measure your ceiling before ordering.
The five heads and their reach
Stormpoll is the shortest at fifty inches overall, a Damascus poleaxe with a six inch cutting edge. Ashmaul is a polehammer at fifty two inches with a nine inch head, built to crush rather than cut. Harrowsweep is the improvised one made good, a war scythe on a sixty inch ash haft with a twenty inch sweeping blade, triquetra etched, with a leather grip and blade cover. Frostward is the Damascus halberd at sixty six inches with an eighteen inch head, which is the classic combination of axe, spike and hook. Reaphook is the longest of them at seventy two inches, a hooked single edged glaive head on an ash haft with riveted steel langets running well down the shaft.
