HEMA swords are sparring and drill tools for Historical European Martial Arts, made to be hit with rather than hung on a wall. Forty nine pieces sit in this hub. The two handed side of the range runs through feders and blunt longswords. The single handed side covers arming swords, sideswords, messers, rapiers, sabres and smallswords, and a montante, a flame bladed greatsword and a rondel dagger trainer sit outside all of those groups.
Almost everything here is 51CrV4 spring steel hardened to 49 to 52 HRC. That is softer than the 1095 used on the sharps elsewhere in this shop, and it is deliberate. A sparring blade has to bend under a hard bind and come back straight instead of taking a set or breaking. Four pieces in the range are ground sharp for cutting and are listed as 1095 at 54 to 58 HRC.
Flex is the figure club fencers ask for first, so every listing names a tier rather than a measured number. Read what the flex tiers actually mean before you order, and if this is your first steel piece, how to choose your first HEMA sword takes the decision in order. Tip shape matters as much as flex, because the tip is what gets checked at the gear table.
Every piece on this page takes a custom engraving on the blade, the ricasso or the grip, chosen on the product page.
If you want something built to your own reach instead, start with the sword builder and set the blade length, the fuller, the guard, the pommel and the grip wrap.
