An arming sword is the single handed knightly sword of the high middle ages, the piece that followed the Viking sword and hung at the hip beside a shield before the longsword took over. Straight double edged blade, a cross of steel or brass at the hand, a short grip for one hand and a counterweighted pommel at the end. It is the shape most people picture when they picture a medieval sword.
The swords here run 31 to 40 inches overall with 24 to 32 inches of blade, and bare weights sit between about 2 lb 6 oz and 2 lb 14 oz. Most blades are 1095 high carbon hardened to 54 to 58 HRC. Around a dozen are 1095 and 15N20 Damascus at 58 to 60 HRC. Grips are leather over a shaped wooden core, fittings are steel or brass, and nearly every sword ships with a fitted leather scabbard.
Choose by pommel and guard first, since those are what place a sword in a century, then read the edge line on the product page, because some pieces are sharpened and some are ground as display edges.
