1095 and 15N20 is the pairing behind every Damascus piece we sell. The 1095 is plain high carbon and darkens in the etch. The 15N20 carries nickel and stays bright. Weld the two, draw them out, fold and cut back, and the contrast between them is the pattern. Finished hardness runs 58 to 60 HRC, which is harder than our plain carbon steel and correspondingly less forgiving.
What the pairing ends up as
Mostly swords. Stormcairn is the arming sword, 37 inches overall with a 30 inch blade. Foldwarden is a messer at 32 inches with a 25 inch blade, the single edged German shape with a slab grip. Emberfall is a falchion at 30 inches with a 24 inch blade, and Runemarch is the rune engraved version at 29 inches with a 23 inch blade. Jadeholt takes the same steels somewhere else entirely, a Chinese jian at 35 inches overall with a 27 inch double edged blade. Fletchbane is the odd one out and the most practical: six socketed broadhead arrowheads in a rolled leather case.
