A bastard sword sits between a one handed arming sword and a true two hander. The grip is long enough for a second hand but short enough to use with one, which is where the name comes from: it belongs to neither family. It is the most versatile European sword shape and the one most people should buy second.
Lengths, grips and guards
Gravewind is the shortest at 41 inches overall with a 31 inch high carbon blade. Longwake is 42 inches with a faceted pommel, a navy leather grip and a black scabbard. Valkhilt is the Damascus one at 43 inches overall with a 33 inch blade. Loopwarden carries an open ring pommel with a brown leather grip and guard and a belt hung scabbard, which is the easiest of them to actually wear. Ringwolf is longer again at 47 inches with a ring terminal guard, a knotwork ricasso wrap and a steel scabbard. Grimhook is the biggest at 48 inches overall, a two handed blade with parrying hooks above the ricasso and a ring terminal crossguard.
