A gut hook is the small curved claw ground into the spine near the tip. It opens hide from the inside without cutting into the stomach wall, which saves a tainted carcass and a bad afternoon. If you have ever done it with a plain point in poor light you already know why this shape exists.
Handles that hold in the wet
All of these are Damascus, forged from 1095 and 15N20 and etched. What changes is the grip. Gutwarden uses a stacked leather handle, which swells slightly when damp and stays put. Hornhook and Hornreaver both work buffalo horn, the second adding ram horn with turquoise and brass spacers, which is the showiest of the group. Wengehook uses tropical wenge, a dense dark wood that shrugs off blood better than an open grained timber, and Wengehunter pairs the same wood with stag horn. Ravenhook goes with olive wood and a brown leather belt sheath. Every one ships in cowhide, since a gut hook that rides loose is a hook that finds your leg.
