Not every Norse blade was a full length sword. A short sword sits between the seax and the arming sword, long enough to reach past a shield and short enough to draw sitting down. It was also considerably cheaper, which is why more people carried one than ever carried the long famous kind.
Lengths, pommels and etching
Grimtide is the shortest at 21 inches overall with a triple fullered blade, a ribbed leather grip and a brown leather scabbard. Manecrest is 26 inches overall with a 20 inch fullered blade, a brass lion head guard and pommel and knotwork etching. Silverhilt matches that length with an engraved knotwork hilt and a black scabbard. Tidebrand is the Damascus one at 28 inches overall with a 21 inch blade. Trinecrown is the longest at 31 inches with a triquetra engraved disc pommel and a cream cord grip. Two go sideways: Sawglade adds a sawback spine with a stacked leather grip, and Vegcage is a basket hilt with a Vegvisir engraved brass cage.
