A langet is a strap of steel that runs from the head down the shaft and is riveted through it. It stops a blade sliding down and cutting the haft in two, and it spreads the shock of a hard blow into the wood rather than concentrating it at the eye. Anything meant to be swung in earnest has them.
Where they are fitted here
Langbeard is the axe, a Dane axe on a thirty two inch ash haft with a knotwork engraved head, steel langets and a leather edge guard. Stormbeak is the compact hammer at twenty inches overall with a Mjolnir engraved head on ash. Ravenbeak is the Damascus war hammer, a 1095 and 15N20 head on ash with a leather grip and a raven etch. On the long shafts, Ashwarden is a halberd at sixty two inches with a seventeen inch head, and Grimhook is sixty four inches with a fifteen inch head on hardwood. Reaphook is the longest of the lot at seventy two inches, a hooked single edged glaive head on ash.
The axes sit in Dane axes, the shafted heads in halberds and the blunt ones in Viking hammers.
