A longsword is the two handed European blade of the late medieval period, long enough to need both hands but light enough to be carried. In Damascus it becomes a display piece first and a study piece second, because the layer pattern runs the whole length of the blade and there is a lot of blade to look at. Overall lengths here sit between 44 and 46 inches.
Pommels, guards and scabbards
Valkcrest is the longest at 46 inches with a 35 inch blade. Stormlace matches it at 45 inches with a leather wrapped grip, a quatrefoil cross guard and a cross laced leather scabbard. Crownweave uses a faceted crown pommel over a knotwork cut crossguard with a black scabbard, and Crownflute takes the fluted version of the same crown on a hand and a half grip with a downswept guard. Beakcrown carries a raven etched pommel and a second down swept guard. Prowcrown goes further with a barbed guard and a longship engraving. Nightwhorl is the bastard sword of the group at 44 inches with a lobed pommel, and Flamewave is the odd one, a wave cut flamberge blade with a parrying hook guard and a wooden scabbard.
