The katana is the most recognisable sword on earth and the most misunderstood. It is a single edged cutting blade with a gentle curve, made hard at the edge and soft at the spine so it takes an edge without snapping. Everything else people say about it is either folklore or salesmanship. These all run about forty inches overall.
Blades, wraps and guards
Jadewake is the green Damascus one, with a silk ito wrap, a brass tsuba and a hardwood saya. Jadecord matches the colour in 1095 with an iron tsuba and a green lacquered scabbard. Moonedge is the plain high carbon option, cut with a bo hi fuller at 54 to 58 HRC. Duskwake carries a clay quenched hamon with a runic compass tsuba and a black saya, and the hamon is the visible line where the hard edge meets the soft body. Spiralcrest is Damascus with an engraved triskelion, a cord wrapped tsuka and a brass habaki. Ravenwake closes it with a 1095 and 15N20 layered blade and a triskele engraved guard.
They sit in katana and Japanese swords and in Damascus swords. Read what is a katana for the parts by name.
