A leather sheath is what turns a blade into something you can carry. The parts that matter are invisible on a photograph: a stitched welt so the edge never sits against the thread, a mouth cut tight enough to hold the knife when it is upside down, and a belt loop or snap that suits how you actually wear it. The standalone piece is a hand made tooled Viking knife sheath with a Celtic knotwork panel, brass rivets and a belt loop, cut to fit blades up to 10 inches. It is the answer if you already own something that arrived bare. The rest are pieces that ship with fitted leather. There is a Norse dagger at 20 inches overall with a smooth black grip, a knotwork engraved guard and a tan sheath, a Celtic dagger at 14 inches with a carved bone handle, a spiral etched ricasso and a tan sheath, a Viking bowie at 13 inches with a bone handle, a brass guard and a belt sheath, a karambit at 9 inches with green micarta scales, a brass bolster and a steel finger ring, a two piece set of twin seax knives at 15 inches each with knotwork engraved bolsters and two sheaths, a sawback machete at 26 inches with an etched knotwork panel and a brown sheath, a Damascus falchion short sword with a sawback spine and a tooled sheath, a raven axe on a 15 inch ash haft with a snap closure sheath, and a boar spear with a leather blade sheath. Steel is plain 1095 high carbon at 54 to 58 HRC or forge welded 1095 and 15N20 Damascus at 58 to 60 HRC. Prices run from 129 dollars to 379 dollars.
Living with leather
Leather holds damp and damp marks carbon steel, so dry the blade before it goes back in and store anything long term out of its sheath rather than in it.
