The ninjato is the straight bladed short sword of popular imagination. There is no archaeological find behind it and we would rather say that plainly than sell you a legend. What there is, is a genuinely useful shape: a straight single edge, a square guard and a scabbard that carries flat against the back or the hip.
Blades, guards and scabbards
Nightpath is the plain one, high carbon steel at 33 inches overall with a 22.5 inch blade in a straight black lacquered wooden saya with a cord. Blackreed is the dark version in 1095, a straight single edged blade with a blackened finish, a square guard and a cord wrapped tsuka. Nightfold moves to Damascus, a 1095 and 15N20 pattern welded blade with a cord wrapped handle and a black lacquered scabbard. Shadowfen carries an angled chisel point rather than a conventional tip, with a triskele engraved guard and a straight hardwood saya. Valkshade is the pair, two blades with Valknut etching, round iron tsuba and two black scabbards, which is the one people buy for photographs.
