The spear is the one thing every Norse fighter actually owned. A sword cost a farm. A spear cost a head of steel and a straight stick, which is why the finds are full of them and why any line of reenactors should be too. It is also the easiest arm to learn and by far the safest to drill with.
Shafts, heads and sets
Ashreaver is the full length one, a seven foot ash shaft with a knotwork cut socket and a steel butt ferrule. Ashfang is more manageable at sixty inches overall, a broad leaf head with a brass butt spike. Ashreach is the Damascus option, a leaf shaped head with a brass Valknut ferrule on ash. For anyone kitting out more than one person, the sets matter. Ashpoint is six socketed high carbon heads from five to nine inches with rune marked collars in a canvas roll. Twinfang is a matched pair of carbon steel heads with rune cut sockets and a leather blade sheath, and Wyrmfang is a single Damascus head with a brass socket collar.
They sit in Viking spears, next to the rest of the kit in Viking armor. For buying one as a present, read gifts for reenactors.
