The round shield is the oldest board shape there is, held at the centre behind a boss rather than strapped to the arm. That centre grip is what makes it quick, since the whole face pivots on the fist rather than following the elbow. Every culture on this tag arrived at it independently, which tells you something.
Norse, Greek and Roman faces
Ravenhold is the painted Norse board, twenty four inches across with twin ravens on red and white and a steel Valknut boss. Stormwheel is the same size as a navy and white pinwheel with an Elder Futhark rune ring. Two are steel faced: Ringwall with an engraved Celtic knotwork border and a domed centre boss, and Starguard with a painted star and concentric bands. Twinhawk is carved hardwood with a double headed eagle and a blackened steel rim. Aquilorn is the Roman one, carved hardwood with a bronze toned eagle, leather arm straps and a forged grip bar. Boarshield is the largest and the odd one out, a thirty inch bronze faced Greek hoplon with a riveted rim and a painted running boar.
The Norse boards sit in round shields and the classical ones in Roman and Greek shields. Read Viking shields explained for how they were built.
