The Norse were spear people. A sword marked you out as wealthy, but the line was held with points on shafts, and the finds bear that out by a wide margin. This tag stretches the idea outward to the tridents, hooked blades and scythes that share the same principle: keep the trouble at the far end of a long stick.
Points, prongs and hooks
Ashfang is the plain spear, sixty inches overall with a broad leaf head on an ash haft and a brass butt spike. Dawnleaf is the Damascus one at sixty eight inches with a twelve inch leaf blade, a riveted socket and a brass collar. The tridents are the surprise. Reedfork is a twelve inch three prong head on a sixty six inch ash haft with a knotwork collar, and Tidefork is the Damascus war trident, a fourteen inch head on an ebony haft with a brass collar and butt cap. Reaphook is the glaive at seventy two inches, a hooked single edge on ash with steel langets, and Harrowsweep is the war scythe, a twenty inch sweeping blade on a sixty inch haft.
They sit in Viking spears and glaives and polearms, inside the wider Norse arms range.
