A war hammer is a mace that grew a beak. The face crushes and the pick on the reverse punches through plate where a flat head would only dent it. Langets, the steel straps running down from the head along the shaft, are what stop a good blow from shearing the haft, which is why every serious example has them.
Reach, from belt to both hands
Anvilcrown is the shortest, a nineteen inch walnut haft under a double faced head with an engraved collar and a leather belt hanger. Stormbeak is twenty inches overall with a Mjolnir engraved head and steel langets on ash. Anvilwake runs a twenty four inch haft with a rune cut head, a leather wrapped grip and a head cover. Crowfell adds the beak proper, a Damascus crow beak pick on a twenty six inch hardwood haft with brass langets and a ferrule. Ravenbeak pairs a Damascus head with an ash haft, steel langets and a raven etch. At the top, Rookbeak is thirty three inches overall with a ten inch head, and Ashmaul is a polehammer at fifty two inches.
They sit in Viking hammers and Thor hammers, with the long shafts in poleaxes.
