A Japanese short sword is a wakizashi in almost every case: the companion blade worn beside a katana and carried indoors where a long sword was not welcome. Blades sit between eighteen and twenty inches, which makes it the most usable Japanese sword for anyone without a hall to swing in.
The blades and their mounts
Moonwake is the shortest at twenty six inches overall with an eighteen inch blade, a clay hardened hamon and a brass habaki. Bonecrest is twenty seven inches with a nineteen inch blade. Riverstone runs twenty eight inches with a black lacquered saya and a cord sageo. Shadowcurve is the dark option at the same length with a blackened curved blade and matching saya, and Snowfold is the longest at thirty inches with a visible hamon and a gloss white saya. Trinehilt is the Damascus one, with a triquetra engraved brass tsuba over a hardwood saya. Trithorn is the set, three blades and three lacquered scabbards with cord wrapped handles in black, red and ivory. Blackreed is the outlier, a straight bladed ninjato with a square guard.
