A larp shield takes more abuse than anything else in a kit. It gets hit, dropped, leaned on and thrown in a car boot, and it still has to look like something from the right century when a camera comes out. These are wooden boards with real edging and real strap sets rather than painted foam.
Round, kite and heater
The rounds are the Norse end. Ravenhold is 24 inches across, painted red and white with twin ravens and a steel Valknut boss. Emberward is bigger at 30 inches, a planked linden face with a brass boss carved with knotwork and a rawhide rim. The kites cover the Norman and crusader side. Crossmarch and Palecross are both Templar boards with a red cross pattee, one on a black and white field with an engraved gilt border, the other on white with a rawhide bound edge. Palewing is a 40 inch Norman kite, per pale black and white, with an engraved knotwork panel and a riveted rawhide rim. Wavewarden is a 34 inch teardrop with painted bands and a full leather strap set. On the heater side, Lionward stands 30 inches with a painted rampant lion, and Quarterfell is quartered navy and white with a knotwork border.
Rounds are grouped in Viking shields and the tall boards in kite shields and bucklers. If it is going on a wall between events, choosing a shield for display is worth a look.
