Pattern welded is the honest name for what most sellers call Damascus. Two steels, 1095 and 15N20, are stacked, forge welded into a single billet, folded and drawn out, then the finished piece is etched so the boundary between the layers shows. The pattern is structural. It runs through the metal rather than sitting on the surface, which is the whole difference between this and a printed imitation.
How far the billet goes here
This tag is unusually varied because the same billet ends up in shapes that have nothing else in common. The blunt heads are the surprise: a flanged mace at 27 inches overall with a 6 inch head on a rosewood haft with a leather wrapped grip and a brass butt cap, a bar mace at 28 inches with a 7 inch head on an all steel blackened haft with polished collars, a morning star at 26 inches with a 5 inch head on dark hardwood with turned brass collars, and a flail at 29 inches with a spiked ball head on a patterned fore shaft. There is a blacksmith sledge hammer with a valknut engraved head and a leather wrapped handle, and a double headed axe with twin bits and an engraved Mjolnir cheek on a walnut haft. On the blade side sit a Roman gladius at 27 inches with a cut Greek key border and solid bronze fittings, a wakizashi at 28 inches with a black lacquer saya, a Celtic dagger at 14 inches with a carved bone handle and a spiral etched ricasso, a folding knife at 9 inches open with skeletonised brass handles and a triquetra mark, and a two piece war scythe on a 60 inch haft with a companion blade. Everything runs 58 to 60 HRC. Prices run from 255 dollars to 649 dollars.
