Swords for groomsmen is the maximalist end of wedding gifting and it needs thinking through before you order five of them. A sword is a spectacular thing to hand somebody. It is also three feet long, it does not fit in hand luggage, and at least one member of your party lives in a studio flat with no wall to put it on.
What is on this tag
Viking swords, cosplay and fantasy blades, dagger swords and short swords. Overall lengths run from about 24 to 40 inches with blades from roughly 22 to 33. Steel is stainless on part of the range, plain high carbon at 54 to 58 HRC on another, and Damascus of 1095 and 15N20, forge welded and acid etched, at 58 to 60 HRC on the rest. Grips are olive wood, rosewood, leather wrapped steel and cord. Several have etched fullers or engraved panels on the flat.
Making it work as a group gift
Buy the same model for everyone and vary the engraving rather than the blade, so they photograph as a set and each one is still personal. Short swords around 24 to 30 inches are the practical choice, because they are easier to transport, easier to mount and less likely to end up in a garage. Order in one go, since blades bought months apart will not match in finish. Text engraving is 19 dollars, a symbol is 39 dollars and a family crest is 49 dollars, done in the US after arrival, and the engraving page shows what a fuller or a guard will actually hold.
Naming them
People do name these, and if you are going to, the historical and literary precedent is worth a look rather than inventing something that sounds like a fantasy novel. The Excalibur article covers where the legend actually comes from and what collectors buy on the back of it. The wider wedding range is on the wedding and groomsmen shelf and the blades themselves in the swords.
Getting them home
A sword does not travel as hand luggage and it does not post cheaply. If the party is flying in, ship to the recipients rather than handing blades out at the reception and hoping. Anything with a scabbard needs the blade stored out of it or lightly oiled first, because vegetable tanned leather holds moisture against carbon steel and a wedding week is long enough to leave marks.
