1095 and 15N20 is the pairing behind almost every Damascus blade worth buying. The 1095 is plain high carbon and goes dark in the etch. The 15N20 carries nickel and stays bright. Weld them, fold them, cut them back and the contrast is what you see. Everything on this tag is that combination, finished at 58 to 60 HRC.
What the pattern ends up on
The swords take the most layers. Runeglint is a 36 inch Viking sword with Elder Futhark blade runes, a wheel pommel and a timber scabbard. Serpentweld goes further with a pattern welded chevron fuller and a trilobate Valknut pommel. Inkfold is a 28 inch wakizashi with a black lacquer saya and a cord wrapped tsuka.
