A Viking age sword is a broad double edged blade with a deep fuller, a short guard and a pommel built in lobes or a rounded brazil nut. It was the most expensive thing most warriors would ever own, often named, often buried with them. These follow the archaeology on profile and fittings rather than inventing a shape.
Pommels and blade lengths
Barrowlight and Sunwake are the plain pair, both 35 inches overall with 29 inch high carbon blades. Wyrmcoil is the broadsword at 36 inches with a 30 inch blade. Longkeel carries a brass brazil nut pommel over a 30 inch broad fullered blade, with a tan leather grip and a full leather scabbard, which is the closest here to a grave find. Runewhet is 35 inches with a grey leather grip and a tea cosy pommel, the squat rounded form found across Scandinavia. Two use the five lobed pommel: Lobecrown, a Damascus blade with Elder Futhark runes and a leather scabbard, and Runeflame at 37 inches with a rune etched fuller, a twisted wire grip and a brown scabbard.
They sit in Viking swords. For a shortlist worth owning, read the best Viking swords for collectors, and the Elder Futhark for what the blade rows say.
