A karambit is the curved claw knife from Southeast Asia, held with a finger through the ring so the blade sits under the fist. The curve follows the way a hand actually pulls, which is why it caught on far outside the region it came from. In Damascus the hook of the blade shows the layer lines at their best.
Handles, rings and sheaths
Ramclaw uses a ram horn handle with a leather sheath, which is the most traditional looking of the group. Turquoiseclaw sets turquoise into bull horn and resin and closes it with a Damascus finger ring. Roseclaw and Clawfold both run rosewood, the second at 8 inches overall with a spiral engraved bolster and a steel ring. Pakkaclaw uses coloured pakka wood over a steel bolster, which handles damp better than natural horn. Clawshade is the 1095 and 15N20 one, with an ebony handle and a knotwork engraved finger ring. Talonveil is the modern build at 9 inches overall, green micarta scales with a brass bolster and a steel ring.
They are grouped in karambit knives, alongside the wider range in Damascus knives. If you have never held one, what is a karambit knife explains the grip before you buy.
