Dense, oily and dimensionally stable, rosewood is the handle material that asks least of you. It does not swell like softer woods, it takes a deep polish, and the dark grain sets off layered Damascus without competing with it. For a working knife that lives in a pack, it is the most forgiving choice we fit.
Against Bone and Horn
Bone looks finer and antler grips better when wet, but both are natural materials that vary piece to piece and need more care. Rosewood is consistent, hard-wearing and easy to maintain. Compare with stag horn and bone handles.

Does rosewood need oiling?
Occasionally. A light wipe of mineral or linseed oil once or twice a year keeps the grain rich and stops it drying out.
Is rosewood good for wet work?
Better than most woods thanks to its natural oils, though textured stag horn still grips best with wet or gloved hands.
Will the colour change over time?
Rosewood darkens and deepens with handling and light exposure. Most owners consider that an improvement.
Can rosewood be engraved?
Yes — it takes engraving cleanly, which is why it is a popular choice for named gifts.
